The one thing I love about art, is being able to express your emotions.
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas
My favourite kind of art is drawing, I love to sketch and shade. Everyone has their own way of expressing their art, my friend does it through abstract (which I think is very special to them personally). My BFFL expresses herself through surrealism, she’s very good at it. I do a bit of both, they’re equally fun to play around with.
You can literally do anything with surrealism, add anything you want no matter how irrelevant it looks. I like to communicate emotions, so you’ll notice that the right picture is a lot about being trapped. The women all have chains on their hands and there are cracks in the iris, these things show and emphasize that they’re trapped and/or trying to get out. The pictures in the tear are things that have happened in my life, my emotions are in the eye. (Note this was a very long time ago, a very depressing image I admit). To the left is a more recent one, a very busy image. This one’s how I have a lot of things on my mind, I drew all of the busy situations on the page to the point where it kinda looked abstract. It’s like seeing what’s going on in my mind from the inside out.
That’s a whole lot of confusing right? But that’s the thing, when you’re an artist your pieces might not always make sense. When you go to an art gallery you see random electronic images of people with cars, weird looking beasts with horns – all of these have some sort of story, meaning or reason behind them. Personally I don’t think anyone can make a masterpiece unless they’re driven to or have a reason behind it (correct me if I’m wrong). In case you haven’t noticed by now, it takes forever to create a work of art. And you know what?
“Art is never finished, only abandoned,” – Leonardo Da Vinci
For me I can tell you that it is so hard to look at my art work and not want to add something to it (Some may relate). Whether that’d be a branch, a bird, a person, anything. So to keep my sanity, I have to abandon it. In all honesty these images are not finished, they still have things that need to be added. But then again, they always will.
